As homemakers, we have a tendency to go nonstop. This is particularly true around the holidays because you’re cleaning, decorating, baking, and trying to fit in your favorite holiday traditions.
Going too long without taking care of yourself can lead to unnecessary stress. It can be difficult to take “me” time, but if you set up a routine to set aside at least 30 minutes a day for yourself, it becomes easier. Use that time to do something leisurely (like reading a good book, going for a walk, catching up on your favorite TV show, or enjoying a warm cup of coffee), and don’t push yourself to finish a project or try to be productive.
We sometimes feel that taking time for ourselves is a waste of time that won’t accomplish anything. One of the good things to come out of 2020 is that it forced many of us to slow down and take some “me” time. Here are three reasons you need to take time for yourself.
1. It boosts your mood
When you take some time to yourself, you become a better person inside and out who’s happier and doesn’t build up resentments. When you don’t spend enough time to yourself, you fill up others’ cups but not your own. You end up not spending enough time on the things you love. But, by taking some time to yourself, you’ll be refreshed and re-energized.
2. It raises your self-esteem
You’re more than a homemaker. You’re a whole person, and taking time for yourself helps you realize that you’re important and deserve to be refreshed. By taking “me” time, you’ll become more comfortable in your own skin and have greater self-esteem.
3. You stay in touch with what’s important
We all have the same 24 hours in a day. And to get everything done, sometimes you have to cut out some activities. When you make taking time for yourself a priority, you’ll start to realize what’s really important to you. That will make it easier to cut out activities that don’t strengthen your relationships or help you achieve your goals.
